Registration for the July 2026 JLPT opens in March, and I've already started sketching out my study plan. Figured I'd ask — who else is mapping out the next cycle?
My target: N3. December was my N4 pass, so July is the natural next step. Five months is a tight but workable window if I start now rather than waiting for registration to officially open.
My rough structure:
- February–March: Foundation. Finish the core N3 grammar list, build vocabulary to 3,500 words.
- April–May: Active practice. Reading comprehension drills, listening with transcripts, timed sections.
- June: Simulations. At least three full-length timed practice exams. Review, not cram.
- July: Taper. Light review only, protect sleep and mental state going into exam week.
I've learned that planning the final month matters as much as planning the first. Last time I over-studied in the final week and went into the exam tired.
Who else is targeting July? What level, and how are you structuring your prep? Would love to hear different approaches — especially from anyone doing N5 or N4 for the first time.
